Lowlander Board President Theresa Dardar and Vice President Rosina Philippe participated in the Gulf Research Program’s inaugural Gulf-Alaska Knowledge Exchange. May Nguyen, another Lowlander board member, is also on the steering committee for the Exchange.
The Gulf-Alaska Knowledge Exchange, held in late October, was focused on addressing the impacts of oil spills in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska. This event gathered researchers, local community members, and policymakers to foster collaboration and dialogue.
Participants discussed the environmental, economic, and social ramifications of oil spills, sharing valuable insights and best practices from both regions. A key goal was to enhance understanding of spill impacts and develop effective prevention and response strategies.
By bridging knowledge gaps, the Gulf-Alaska Knowledge Exchange emphasized the importance of ongoing communication and partnership in tackling the complex issues surrounding oil spills, aiming for safer and more sustainable practices in the future.
